robert-naylorRobert Naylor, Research Consultant, Leeds

Can you tell me a bit about your background, prior to joining WRC?

Prior to joining WRC I worked in Public Sector Executive Search, with a focus on recruiting to senior roles in local government. Prior to this I studied politics at the University of Hull.

Why did you decide to join WRC? What makes us stand out from other research companies?

I wanted to branch out and focus on a greater variety of roles than my previous role allowed. I was also excited by the opportunities for personal development and progression at WRC

How would describe WRC in one sentence?

Exciting, entrepreneurial and extremely good at Research!

Can you talk me through a ‘typical day’ in your role?

Typically, I will split my day between internet research, where I use a whole range of methods to find information or individuals for my projects, and telephone research, where I will spend time talking to candidates and networking with key players in the industries that I am currently working on. I tend to put my feet up at lunch and watch TV (usually Loose Women or Come Dine with Me!)

Why is this role different to any other research job?

You get to work on some really interesting roles with FTSE 100 companies. WRC’s rigorous focus on staff development and the desire to promote from within also makes for a positive working environment.

Can you tell me a bit about your first few weeks/months at WRC?

As I write this I’m just coming to the end of week 5 at WRC. Everyone has been very welcoming and I’ve learned a lot of new things very quickly. I was able to get involved with live projects from day 1 without feeling like I was being thrown in at the deep end.

What skills or personality traits do you think are vital to work in your role?

Confidence, resilience and a good sense of humour. You need to be confident picking up the phone to almost anyone.

Are there any common misconceptions about this type of work?

When I left university I had the preconception that the recruitment industry was very cut-throat. WRC are not like that at all and they support their staff very well.

What’s the most valuable thing you have learned since here?

The most valuable thing I’ve learned since joining is the importance of taking necessary time to ensure that your work is of the highest quality. In my previous role there was a culture of doing the bare minimum to plough through a large of number of roles, where WRC very much has a culture of quality over quantity.

Can you tell me a bit about the culture here?

The office culture is very relaxed and the people are very friendly… The company also seems to have acquired its own cat, Jason, who seems friendly too!

CourtneyCourtney Tyrell-Charles – Resource Planner, Leeds

Can you tell me a bit about your background, prior to joining WRC?

Before joining WRC I was a graduate, I studied Psychology BSc HONS at Leeds Beckett University.

How would describe WRC in one sentence?

Diverse, challenging and awesome!

Can you tell me a bit about the people/ the culture here?

Everyone is very friendly and the culture is one of kind!

Tell me about some of your favourite projects you’ve worked on so far?

An insight piece on CEO’s into the FTSE 100, 250, Dow Jones 30 and Hong Kong 20.  This was a very interesting project that which revealed some particularly noteworthy differences in age and gender.

Emmie Blower – New Business Director, London

Can you tell me a bit about your background, prior to joining WRC?

I have always worked in sales since my very first job selling wicker baskets! I then spent 8 years helping the public sector with IT recruitment projects and the last 5 years working for a HR Management Consultancy selling Reward, Employee Engagement and Leadership Development projects.

Why did you decide to join WRC? What makes us stand out from other research companies?

I was impressed by the current thought leadership on the website and felt our delivery capability was particularly strong.  It is nice to believe in what you are selling.

How do you describe your role here to a friend/someone outside the industry?

I sell projects which help business’s gain the best talent in the market or make the right business decisions regarding talent.

Can you tell me a bit about your first few weeks/months at WRC?

It has been great meeting all the different cogs in the wheel, everyone has been very welcoming, helpful and informative.

Are there any common misconceptions about this type of work?

I think the biggest misconception is that you are not helping the client.  Although it is my job to make WRC money, it is imperative that we offer a solution to a client’s problem.

What advice would you give to someone looking to join WRC?

Do it!  It is full of passionate and inspiring people.
