Hello! I’m Fiona Barker the Recruitment Manager for the Write Research Group. I joined the business only a few months ago, following a ten year career in Marketing and Legal recruitment with EMR (part of the FiveTen Group) and Michael Page International. Coming from a mainstream contingency Recruitment background, I thought I might share some insight with you on the differences between the way we at Write Research serve our FTSE100 and Fort500 clients, and how that differs from the standard Recruitment and Headhunting businesses we are all so familiar with!
We have offices in Newcastle, Leeds and London, and I am based with the company engine – our Research team – in the lovely city of Leeds. The beauty of our business model is that our Researchers get to work on really juicy projects with high-profile international clients without having to live and work in London. With the spa town of Harrogate, historic York, Ilkley Moor and the Yorkshire Dales on our doorstep, we make sure our researchers work to 5:30pm, so they have time to enjoy their free time as well!
Our Researchers are ID specialists with the instincts of Inspector Morse (but the looks of James Bond and Moneypenny obviously!) Not sector specific, they are experienced across a wide range of sectors including FMCG, Finance, Retail, and Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing and Defence to name but a few! Projects are just as likely to be based in countries such as France, China, Iran and the U.S. as they are the UK, which keeps us on our toes!
In a nutshell, our Researchers take the process of Executive Search from the Identification stage through to the approach and placement - networking all the way, using both traditional methods as well as social media, such as Linkedin, Twitter, Xing and Facebook etc (check us out on each). Typically head-hunters will use either an in-house research team or outsource the ID work to an external supplier – at Write Research our Research team undertakes the full process, ensuring continuity along the way. In addition, unlike traditional recruitment companies, we don’t hold a database of soon to be out of date CVs – we approach each role with a fresh set of eyes and start a search specifically tailored to each role. I’m sure that any experienced Researchers reading this will agree it is the way forward for the industry!
So why do we love what we do? We get to work within the Executive Search / Management Consultancy sector, placing big-hitting professionals into exciting new roles with major international corporations, as well as providing real time insights for our clients around their organisation insight and design. We do this without the pressure of working in a sales environment typical of the Recruitment industry, all the time being based in a supportive team environment in a great city like Leeds; enjoying get togethers at great places like the Restaurant Bar & Grill and York Races while working hours which are far from typical of the industry!
Recruitment Research is the grown-up way to work within this vibrant industry – and we can honestly say we love it.
